Meet the Mustangers

Rachel Windchaser

I consider myself a permanent student of the horse, and the best teachers have been the horses in my life.

Growing up with horses, it was a learn on the job life, having my first pony, Harvey at 3.

Dad taught me a healthy mix of compassion and practical ways of horse care. For him, and so for me the horse always came first. His mantra was “Be Kind and Check your timimg” advice I still rely on today. Harvey taught me about the deeper connection a child can have and I hold on to that still.

As a teenager, working my own small herd of 5, within the larger family herd, gave me an unique insight. The importance of horses was instilled from a very early age. As a young woman I moved to Spain where I was introduced to the Spanish horses and was the first rider for starting the colts at a breeding yard. In 2005 I moved to Italy were my love of the western riding was cultivated. While learning a lot I found myself looking for a different way of being with the horses and began recalling the bond I had with the horses as a child.

I have immersed myself into a world that puts the horse first yet still achieving goals without compromising the relationship. A new conversation.

Did I always get it right? No. but I never have lost the desire to continue my education. Importantly how to truly listen!

I am now accompanied on the ‘Trail’ by a herd of rare Colonial Spanish Mustangs and they have taken over where my Dad left off. I could not ask for better teachers. And their wisdom is part of the principles I share with my students.

This has led me to Windchaser Ranch and the development of the Equine Specific Environment, which we employ here.

I am interested in the Mustangs use of the land they have access to and we are led by it to improve on a daily basis.

I am responsible for maintaining the Mustangs’ environment as well as building of shelters, creating natural water courses, fencing; all under the supervision of Charlie (Lakota Windchaser).

In the last few years I have developed my skills to include 3D graphic design which now allows me to design unique E.S.E systems for other people. Producing detailed plans of some of the
structures we have designed.

In addtion I am now able to take a layput of clients land and provide them with a virtual tour of how their Equine Specific Environment would look

As always, the Mustangs are the perfect client.
